The Petticoat Lane Conker Challenge

In recent years, the World Conker Championships have been marred by scandal. There have been allegations of cheating, conker shortages, and conker-adorned hats that test the boundaries of fashion.
Not everyone has the time for a day trip to Northamptonshire to witness this momentous occasion in person, so in honour of the event’s 50th anniversary, we’re going bonkers for conkers here on the Lane.
Yes, you read that right. On October 14th, Aldgate Connect BID will be hosting our very own Petticoat Lane Conker Challenge, giving our market lunch-goers the chance to triumph.
Here’s what you need to know:
Date: Tuesday 14th October 2025
Time: 12:00-14:00
Location: Petticoat Lane Food Market, Wentworth Street
The prize: The first 15 challengers to beat our conker champ will win £5 towards their market grub, and ALL participants will be entered into a grand prize draw to win a £100 City Gift Card.
The rules:
1. The challenger will pick a hand to decide who goes first, using ‘1’ and ‘2’ tokens.
2. The conkers will be provided, but each player may choose their own.
3. Each player will get three shots at their opponent’s conker, with a maximum of three rounds per challenge.
4. The conker must be aimed fairly at their opponent’s conker. The string must be at least 8cm from the hand. The conker must be released in a downward motion with both hands in use.
5. The first conker to crack, break, fall off its string, or fall onto the ground will lose.
Judge’s ruling is impartial and final.
We’ve got the conkers; you’ve got the appetite for glory… and lunch. It’s a perfect combination.

In the case of extreme or adverse weather conditions, Aldgate Connect BID reserves the right to cancel this event. Notice will be given on the day of the event should this occur.
