Lemonade Art Studio – the Lane’s latest opening

Posted on: 19.05.2025

Zest up your day with a trip to Petticoat Lane’s newest opening: Lemonade Art Studio. You may walk in and assume this new joint is just your average shop, stocked full cutesy crafts and cheeky crockery… but you would be wrong.

Because as it turns out, there’s a whole art studio hiding beneath the street! Guided by Ashley, the owner and artist-in-residence, you can let your creativity flow with their tailored tufting, acrylic pouring, cream gel or candle-making workshops. And even if (like us) you’re no Picasso, you’ll leave with something any shop would be proud to stock under Ashley’s steady hand.

On Ashley’s creative journey…

Ashley is a trained illustrator and graphic designer with a passion for “bringing art into everyday life in a fun, accessible way”. She wanted to share her “love for handmade crafts, creative experiences and unique items that bring a little joy and calm”, and we thank our lucky stars that she found a way to do that here on the Lane.

The studio itself is Ashley’s labour of love – “I designed our shop’s logo and website myself, and even assembled most of the furniture in the studio by hand!”

What’s the concept behind Lemonade Art Studio?

“They say ‘when life gives you lemons, you turn them into lemonade’, and that saying became the heart of our studio’s name and concept. It’s about turning small moments, challenges, or even just a rainy afternoon into something meaningful through creation.

“We want Lemonade Art Studio to be more than just a shop or a workshop venue – it’s a space where anyone, regardless of skill level, can enjoy the creative process. Our aim is to help people feel relaxed, uplifted, and proud of what they create here.

“At the same time, we’re offering a platform for emerging and independent artists to showcase and sell their work – I even stock my own book here. We want to create a space where you can drop in for a fun activity, buy a unique gift, or feel supported in sharing your own creations. There’s a place for all those here.”

How did you passion for crafting come about?

“I discovered fluid art, tufting, cream gel and candle-making online and through visits to craft shops. They immediately caught my attention. Not only are they visually satisfying and therapeutic, they’re also very beginner-friendly – perfect for people who just want to enjoy the process without any pressure.

“They really align with the values of Lemonade Art Studio – relaxing, hands-on, expressive and welcoming to everyone – so they were the perfect activities for us to offer.”

Why Petticoat Lane?

“We chose to open on Wentworth Street because it’s surrounded by these areas which are known for their creativity. That brings a steady flow of foot traffic, plus a really vibrant, multicultural atmosphere. It’s the perfect location to create a space with warmth and character and for us to build a community that celebrates our values.

“The area just has this vibrant energy. There’s always something happening nearby and every day brings a new mix of people – locals, tourists, families and creatives. There’s this sense that the area is alive and full of stories, which is so inspiring for us.”

Any words of wisdom for first-time crafters?

“Don’t worry about being perfect because this isn’t about getting everything right. Just focus on enjoying the process, trying something new, and maybe even surprising yourself with what you can create.”
