Occurring Annually in December

Since its launch in 2016, the Aldgate in Winter Festival has returned in some form to bring some festive winter cheer to Aldgate’s community.

The festival has a re-occurring theme of lanterns, with local schools and community groups participating in lantern making workshops, creating both hand-held and large-scale lanterns. These are then paraded on the festival day across Aldgate, including through the streets of Petticoat Lane.

The festival has also seen live performances, market stalls, community feasts, creative workshops and more across the years of its running.

The festival was originally launched by the City of London Corporation and is now delivered by Aldgate Connect BID, working in partnership with the local authorities, businesses, schools, and communities in Aldgate.

Petticoat Lane Community Banners: Fabrics of Society

Members of the community came together and fed into the designs of fabric banners, which reflect upon the rich cultural heritage of the area.

Petticoat Lane Digital

Petticoat Lane Digital was a collaborative project between Aldgate Connect BID and the local authorities, stakeholders, businesses, and community to provide a digital presence for the area of Petticoat Lane.

Petticoat Lane Dining Quarter

As a response to the pandemic, Aldgate Connect BID supported the collective of restaurants at the south of Middlesex Street through the implementation of an outdoor dining area in the cul-de-sac end of the road.

Petticoat Salon and Exhibition

Showpiece garments made from fabrics sourced on Wentworth Street were designed, made, and photographed by London Metropolitan University BA Fashion and Fashion Photography students.
